Gloria Steinham

by A.M. Trumble

We're not the same, you and I
This world has set us apart
Or so says these two skinny girls from the 'burbs,
One says she don't want to do a thing but eat bonbons and make pies
One spends her days feasting on them both.
But here where they meet,
they both make a living
Are they living
or something, like it
They could drive now
But you know they'd rather bike it.
Life's so easy now for these women
Even though life makes them hike it.
One keeps saying she wants to pump out kids like she does pies
One can count on one hand, all of his goodbyes
They say:
"Thank you Gloria Steinham,
for making life harder for me
Thank you Gloria Steinham
for making love not what it used to be."
Serving up pastries
Rotting on their shelves
Handing out coffee creations they invented themselves
The men they want are afraid of getting burned
The men who want them think their butter's being churned.
"Thank you Gloria Steinham,
for making life harder for me
Thank you Gloria Steinham
for making love not what it used to be."
One remembers the time that old man called the other a dirty spic
One turned and said "'Scuse me sir she's a wop" just a quick
Two dark skinned girls in a café in the 'burbs
One applied to "Wedding Ring University"
Where she learns
to make French toast
One just robbed the tip jar for a ticket to the coast
"Thank you Gloria Steinham,
for making life harder for me
Thank you Gloria Steinham
for making love not what it used to be."
Thank you Gloria for telling me a man
can't control me, what the heck
They're just our bosses who sign our paycheck.
